Canterbury
Name: Chris “Minty” Mintern
Title and Company: General Manager Vbase
What is your cooking experience? It’s fairly limited. I’m a simple guy with simple tastes. Before I met my wife, I was a baked-beans-on-toast four-times-a-week type of guy. There may or may not have been an incident where I was cooking a BBQ in my hometown of Melbourne on Australia Day and five guests (all Kiwis) got severe food poisoning. Thankfully I will be under the careful guidance of professional chefs for this event.
What would your cooking signature dish be? I am proud to say at 40 years of age I have recently perfected the basic three-egg omelette. (YouTube has a step-by-step guide).
Why are you cooking to help disadvantaged Canterbury children get a fair start in education? I have recently become a dad, which has been a lifechanging experience. All you want to do is protect them for the rest of their life. Being a parent is a tough enough gig as it is, so I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it would be not having the means to provide basic needs for your children. It is an honour and a privilege to support the City Mission’s Back to School Programme by participating in Plate Up for a Purpose and fundraise to ensure all children have necessities such as school uniforms, stationary, school bags and footwear.
What does being part of Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose mean to you and your organisation? Vbase employs over 600 staff and delivers 400 events across five different venues in the city. We’re a strong part of the local community and have strong connections with the people of Canterbury, so I feel it is our obligation to help out and do as much as we can for this great cause.
How can the general public help you? I’ll be working hard to help fundraise as much as possible and ask everyone to get behind this great cause. At Vbase our motto is “We Make Life More Eventful”, so we’re looking at auctioning off some tickets to some upcoming exciting events, plus some behind-the-scenes experiences at our venues, and much, much more. Stay tuned!
