I’m biking from Wānaka to Ōtautahi (Christchurch) the old-fashioned way to raise funds for WAI Wānaka.
Wanaka, Otago
The landscapes of Aotearoa, from the mountains to the rivers, have shaped so much of who I am. Now, I’m taking on a big challenge to give back: this June, I’ll be biking from Wānaka to Christchurch over 600km to raise funds for freshwater conservation and the future of our environment.
But I’m not doing it the easy way. I’ll be riding an old, classic bike, no fancy gear, no high-tech setup just me, my legs, and the open road. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the simplest way is the most meaningful, and that real change often comes through grit, resilience, and connection to the land.
I’ve chosen to support WAI Wānaka, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the health of our water and the wellbeing of our communities for generations to come. WAI Wānaka empowers local communities to understand their environment, recognise their impact, and take meaningful action to care for our lakes, rivers, and land. They work with farmers, landowners, businesses, schools, and volunteers to help build a future where ecosystems thrive and biodiversity can be restored.
This ride is about more than just the distance. It’s about showing that with determination and collective effort, we can protect the precious natural resources that make Wānaka and the wider region so special.
Every donation, big or small, will directly support WAI Wānaka’s work in freshwater protection and community education.
