Fundraising for Oxford LandSAR
Canterbury
A lot of us often enjoy the frequent weekend hike, to blow off the steam of the working week. We enjoy the views, the smell, and the sounds that nature offers in our beautiful country. But quite often, we don’t stop to think about what happens when we get injured.
Oxford LandSAR are the people behind the late night searches in our area. Getting injured friends and family home safely, and the lost as well.
A tremendous amount of effort and team work is involved behind the scenes and a lot of us never stop to think about who is going to rescue us should the worst occur.
On the 2nd and 3rd of October (Saturday and Sunday), I shall be climbing Mt Thomas, a well known Canterbury hill, for 24hrs. In an attempt to raise as greater funds for Oxford LandSAR as possible, and to show the gratitude from not only myself but the many cantabrians and locals who, without realising it, rely on their skills.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could find the time to donate to this volunteer group. Any donation great or small is worth the world.
Cheers,
Ben
Reflections! 3 October 2021
Heya folk,
24hrs later, and we’ve completed it. 60kms, 5,700 metres of elevation gain, and $5,600 raised so far.
Bloody epic!
Would like to take the time to thank each and every one of you who took the time to read the summary of why we are doing this. Wether you donated or not, your support has been much appreciated. To those who have donated, you can be sure they will be put to good use in purchasing more gear for Oxford Search and Rescue.
Sometimes it’s best to sit back and realise/ask yourself that if something goes wrong, who is going to help. We don’t often realise that people like Oxford SAR are volunteers, and like us, have day to day jobs. They give up their time to help others and that is something worth thanking.
Once again, to everyone who managed to come down over the duration of the event, thank you. Your smiles and kind words drive me through the night.
The givealittle page shall remain open for another month or so
Kia Kaha,
Ben
