I am raising money and awareness for mental health in New Zealand as although I feel that we as a country are getting better at handling our mental health, I feel we still have a long way to go. It is incredibly sad that so many people living in such a safe, opportunity-filled and environmentally and socially-rich first-world nation continuously suffer from mental illness and often feel helpless in the management of their condition. Put simply, New Zealand is an outstanding country, yet many of our citizens continue to find themselves suffering from mental illness — hence why I’m keen to raise awareness and chip in a few dollars and cents towards the efforts of The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.
Basically the way it works is that I rely upon the generosity of those kind enough to offer me a couch to park up on for a week or two in order to donate the money that I would otherwise spend on basic flatting expenses such as rent, power and internet ($150.00/week to be precise) to The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. I’ve been loving the time I’ve spent couch-surfing around New Zealand and all the people it has introduced me to up to this point, and I’m looking forward to what the rest of 2018 has in store for me.
Please note that this initiative is officially endorsed by The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.
Lastly, please remember that whatever situation you may find yourself in, IT’S OK TO TALK.
Cheers,
Rodney Martin
