Help raise awareness and funding for Gynaecological Cancer research and treatment in New Zealand.
Wellington
1 person dies of ovarian cancer every 48 hours in New Zealand – that’s higher than our melanoma rates. Out of the 5 gynaecological cancers, ovarian cancer has the highest rate of deaths.
85% of people diagnosed with ovarian cancer are diagnosed in the later stages of disease when treatment options are limited.
Unfortunately my mum, Daylene, is part of the 85%. Diagnosed in November 2021 with Stage 3 Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer which was found by chance during a gall bladder surgery. She had absolutely no symptoms.
The type she has is rare and resistant to chemotherapy and because there is so little information and research, the best treatment course is not known let alone funded.
We won’t even know if the chemotherapy has worked until her cancer has progressed even further.
There is no screening for Ovarian Cancer, or in fact 4 out of 5 of the gynocologycal cancers. Which means most people won’t even find out until they have a more advanced or secondary cancer.
I will be cutting my long hair short at the goal of $5000. For those that know me I won’t have to explain, but for those that don’t; I am a hairdresser and my long hair has been my security blanket for most of my life. My mum does not wish me to shave it, but I want to show my support for her by at least cutting it.
We are under funded, under researched and under publicised for Gynaecological Cancer in New Zealand and that has to change.
The money raised on this page will go to - Talk Peach Gynaecological Foundation.
