Our beloved special needs son Gus Hayman passed away 1 October 2020. In his honour we are raising donations for Assistance Dogs NZ.
Canterbury
Gus John Hayman was an amazing shining star of a young man. He was 19 years old and one of the sweetest, most gentle human beings you will have ever met. Gus lived with non-verbal autism, uncontrolled epilepsy and a profound intellectual disability. A complex diagnosis.
Gus passed away very unexpectedly on 1 October 2020.
He is survived by his whanau, Sheryl, Rosie and Richard, and his Assistance Dog, Fonzy. (oh and cat Harry and two unnamed chickens). Fonzy was invaluable for him, focusing on providing anchoring and guidance.
Our whanau do not need any additional gifts to those that have already been given in amazing generosity already. We feel in Gus's honour we want to work hard with our community to raise funds for Assistance Dogs NZ to help other people like Gus who need the support of an Assistance Dog.
Assistance Dogs really create new opportunities for the whole family of a child with complex needs, allowing them to spend time together doing different activities and removing that feeling of isolation. Everyone has the right to lead the best life they can, and Assistance Dogs allows those with disabilities to reach their potential.
Assistance Dogs NZ Trust receive no Government funding, and relies on donations and grants
Your donation will help this charity train new assistance dogs.
Gus Hayman has passed away 1st October 2020 but in his memory his remaining family want to start a campaign to raise funds for Assistance Dogs NZ. Gus had an amazing Assistance Dog, Fonzy who really helped enhance his life, and that of our whanau.
THANK YOU 17 January 2021
Kia Ora, just a note of heartfelt thanks to all of you who donated so generously to the fundraiser for Assistance Dogs NZ in memory, and honour of our late son Gus John Hayman. $10,510 was raised which will go a long way at ADNZ to training a dog for someone in need. For us this fundraiser has been a therapeutic/positive light in a very difficult time. Richard, Sheryl & Rosie.
ps. The photo is of Gus’s dog Fonzy who is now in Auckland being trained for his next support role
