Espen will be cutting his hair for wigs for cancer patients and donating money raised to Melanoma NZ
Nationwide
A year before Espen was born his Grandad qas diagnosed with a stage II melanoma. Two weeks after he was born his paternal great grandmother died from melanoma. A month after he was born his mother was diagnosed with a stage II melanoma.
A year and a half ago just after his Grandad passed 5 year check the doctors found his melanoma was back and had spread to his lungs and brain. The outcome wasn't promising and Espen prepared for the worst. We had a lot of conversations with him about what was happening and he decided he wanted to grow his hair to donate to children that may have lost their hair getting treatment for cancer.
A year and a half on his hair is ready to cut. Even better his grandad is surpassing expectations while on a relatively new treatment and is even free of the tumors in his brain.
Initially Espen hadn't planned on raising any money but when someone offered to donate to him he thought it would be cool if he raised some money to give to the scientists who are helping to kill the bad bugs.
He would also like everyone to know they should wear sunglasses and sunscreen because if you can help prevent this happening to you why wouldn't you?
Espen's grandad is currently fighting a stage 4 melanoma
