Hiking the Tongariro Crossing in Jandals for Homes of Hope - Doing it for the Kids #JandalDuo #Pairofcrazyjandees

Bay of Plenty

Marc and Rach are locals who are avid bush walkers with a passion for the outdoors, the Bay, & helping people!

On one of our recent treks, we got chatting about how awesome it would be if we could combine helping out a local charity with doing what we love. Marc has always wanted to do the Tongariro Crossing, & we had a thought that if we were to do a charity walk we would need a point of difference... this was when the concept for 'Hiking of Hope – Doing it with a Difference' was born!

Rach has done the Tongariro crossing three times already, climbed Mt Ruapehu and done the 100km Oxfam Charity Walk, & we have both completed various other treks around NZ. The plan is to do the crossing safely on 25th of March 2017.

Homes of Hope is such a worthwhile charity that needs our support for so many reasons. Not only are they a local charity that do so much for the children in our community that need so much love and support, they are one that often gets overlooked at times. Over 6000 NZ children are in foster care due to serious neglect or abuse and, despite best intentions, they are often separated from their brothers and sisters and can change families up to 3 times per year. Please help us help them!

We have identified this Charity to support, due to the magnificent work they do for our local Children. Unfortunately, there are always more & more kids in need of their help, which means more funding is required to provide this much needed care & support.

Homes Of Hope have been operating for 13 years, & have already helped over 157 local children. Together with your support, we can help them provide even more for these precious children.

They provide safe, loving homes away from the mayhem and chaos for as long as they need. Brothers and sisters are kept together and weave a beautiful kete of whanau community around them to support, nurture, guide and lead them.

Mission Completed!  27 March 2017

Mission Completed! Marc Williams and I conquered the Tongariro Crossing on Saturday with the aim of raising funds and awareness for Homes of Hope, a charity whose focus is to help and support children who are foster care due to serious neglect or abuse and, despite the best of intentions are often separated from their brothers and sisters. The day got off to an excellent start when my brother-in-law Darren Dempsey was the one to pick us up and take us to our start point - he even gave us a $50 donation from Dempsey Bus Company! Shot Darren :) and the day just kept on improving from there, despite "iffy" weather predictions leading up to the big day we had perfect conditions, overcast so not too hot and no rain. Thanks to the flag we got a lot of interest and managed to spread the word about the charity and even picked up a further $10 donation along the way :) Again we have been so blown away by the support and donations from everyone - thanks again to everyone who has donated to this amazing charity :)
