The Retreat is a volunteer-driven charity providing support to our brothers and sisters struggling with mental illness

Taranaki

New Zealand has a suicide crisis and the solution requires support for grass-roots causes like Taranaki Retreat Trust who are doing things differently. Taranaki Retreat is a community and volunteer driven service providing support ‘where the gaps are’. The gaps through which 668 Kiwis were lost to suicide last year alone.

In an effort to raise awareness for their cause I will be promoting the Retreat as I train for my first marathon on October 20.

The Retreat has built a healing model combining Māori and Pākehā wisdom in healthcare with the direct experience of individuals and whānau affected by suicidal ideation or loss. They've built a safe place for people to stay who a struggling with mental illness. Support is provided through shelter, good food, life coaching, therapy and more. Everything at the Retreat was built out of donated resources - they're a charity with minimal administration costs that puts every donated dollar to good work.

Please consider donating today. Every donation whether it's $10 or $100 makes a real difference to the lives of our brothers and sisters struggling to make it to tomorrow.
