Just thought I would give a little insight on the chosen charity this Year- Youthline NZ

Heres some Stats

• Youthline is a first point of contact for young people across New Zealand to access a wide range of youth development and support services. Our primary focus is to engage young people and their families – both those who seek assistance and those who wish to develop themselves. We do this through programmes in schools, mentoring, ongoing support from our Youth Workers, counselling, development opportunities, as well as our most recognised service – our Free Youth Helpline.

• Youthline’s flagship service is their FREE nationwide 24/7 Helpline and Text Counselling Services, 7 days per week, which are staffed by a large team of fully trained volunteers supported by Clinical Staff - providing immediate support, development opportunities and referral services. It costs $800,000 a year to run the Helpline which last year received a total of 298,730 phone calls, text messages, webchats and emails last year… It’s a big part of Youthline’s expenses each year and most money raised for all our fundraising goes directly back into this service

• You will most likely be aware that sadly New Zealand has one of the WORST statistics for youth suicide in the developing world. The figures are pretty devastating and it’s hard to comprehend how we (NZ) are so far ahead of other countries. L Statistics like this highlight the importance of the Helpline services Youthline provide to support young people around the country when they need it most.

• 1 in 7 texts we receive relate specifically to suicide and 1 in 3 texts relate to suicide, depression, self-harm & anxiety.for you

Youthline do amazing things for the Youth of New Zealand but need $800,000 to run every year and they only get $87,000 from the government! So they rely fully on fundraisers and companies getting behind this great cause

So before the final and afterwards I will be raising money by doing bake sales, carwashes, sausage sizzles and a few other things

as well as setting up a Givealittle page for those family and friends that want to help from overseas and for those who just want to donate!
