A Modest 5 Km Run For Lifeline Aotearoa

Lifeline Aotearoa is New Zealand’s longest-operating telephone helpline service and has a rich history that dates back over 60 years, since 30 June 1964.

Today, Lifeline is one of New Zealand’s most prominent helplines and offers various services, including a training programme for businesses and community groups.

Calls to our helplines are free, confidential and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Lifeline does not receive government funding, while demand for primary mental health support remains high. We rely on donations from people like yourselves!

Lifeline and the Tautoko suicide crisis helplines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and receive between 7000 and 8000 calls per month. Lifeline counsellors also receive and reply to 20,000 texts per month from people of all ages and all walks of life who are in crisis or distress.

The most common issues people call Lifeline about are loneliness and isolation, relationship difficulties, clinical mental health issues, anxiety and depression, and suicide.

Lifeline counsellors are specially trained in supporting people at risk of self-harm or suicide, the most intensive mental health helpline calls.

I am privileged to be a Volunteer Helplines Counsellor with Lifeline for 11 years now and it is one of the most fulfilling roles I could ever do.
