Mason and Jake, both triathlon first-timers, are undertaking the hardest single day sport event in the world to fundraise for HeartKids NZ.
Nationwide
Mason and Jake are challenging themselves with (allegedly) the hardest single day sporting event in the world, the Ironman triathlon!
They also see opportunity to raise important funds for HeartKids NZ.
Mason's older brother Sam was born with a congenital heart defect and while growing up has undergone 3 open heart surgeries. He, and our family, received wonderful assistance from Heart Kids NZ during that time and as he goes on to lead a full life.
12 babies a week are born in New Zealand with a congenital heart defect – that’s 1 in every 100.
Heartkids New Zealand's mission is to provide lifelong support to all affected by a childhood heart condition or heart disease acquired through childhood and they are the only charity in NZ providing this support.
Mason and Jake have never done a triathlon, let alone an Ironman. They both know it will be a long, hard day, but they see the privilege of doing the challenge paling against the pathway heart children and their families can go through. Please help us help them.

The training will not be wasted 3 March 2021
As some people may have heard the Ironman has been postponed due to current alert covid alert levels.
After some very uncertain days not knowing what was happening or if the event would happen at all we have a new official date for Ironman NZ the 27th of March.
Unfortunately Jake is leaving the country to seek the greener grass before the new race day. This means he will not be able to race the official event.
With all the hard work and training gone into it he can't allow it to be over that easy so he is going to perform the full Ironman race distance on the 6th as planned. This will be a huge challenge as mostly he will be alone and self reliant when it comes to transitions and aid stations. He is going to alter the course a little to help with this but will complete the official distance in all 3 disciplines.
This is going to be a huge day for Jake so show your support to him by sharing our page and getting those donations rolling in for Heartkidsnz.
Mason plans to alter his training and will race the official race day on the 27th of March.
