Boxing to raise funds for suicide awareness and prevention - go Team Red!

Auckland

Sean and Di have signed up to compete in an amateur boxing match to support the Key To Life Charity which does amazing work around suicide prevention and awareness.

Mental health and mental wellbeing is a cause close to both of our hearts so we're stepping waaaay out of our comfort zones to don ridiculous head gear, try to breathe through spitty mouthguards and fumble with our oversize popeye gloves to hopefully beat the crap out of our blue team competition. Or alternatively - have the crap beaten out of us...

We know that suicide is a beast that has touched a number of us and we'd like to honour and remember all those lost.

If you're able to support us on this journey, we'd really appreciate your donation - however small. All money goes directly to the KTL charity and will allow them to continue with their great work they are currently involved with around the country.

We're three weeks into our 14 week training programme with the fight scheduled for 13th May 2017. We'll let you know how we can come along as well!

Anyone who knows me knows that exercise is not something I love. Or even really like. Or even really do. But boxing? The ability to take out all of your pent up rage in a socially acceptable way? Well, that sounds kind of like me...

On a serious note though, mental health, suicide awareness and addiction are all things that resonate with me. The Key To Life charity does amazing work in teaching kiwis that it's okay to have these emotions, it's okay to feel things strongly and it's so, so okay to talk about them, ask for help on how to manage them and be heard. Over 500 New Zealanders take their own life each year. That is a scary number that KTL is working on..

Sean and I dedicate our hard work to Andrew 'Haze' Dreaver. I know he's dearly missed.

I'm doing this 14 week training with my husband, Sean, to raise funds but also to push myself. To be accountable. To keep going even when I'm scared. And I'm plenty scared every time I get into that gym.

The fights are on May 13th and Sean and I are really hoping to be selected. But either way, we're going to work damn hard.

We'd love your support! Thanks for stopping by xoxo
