A twist on the classic Otago "Red Card," 15 boys are getting involved in the name of a good cause, get behind it!

Otago

I'm a second year at Otago Uni, throwing a red card with a bit of a twist.

Instead of your typical "sink a boatload of piss" red card, I thought I'd put the flatties to good use and get them to raise some funds, before they all join me on a casual 21.1km jog in the name of Suicide Prevention. Each flatmate will have to raise at least $50 for the Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust, and then run as part of a team representing the charity in the Cadbury Half Marathon, on September 10th 2017, which just happens to be World Suicide Prevention Day. It's the same amount of money as you would spend on a normal red card (if you include the dusty morning after feed the next day). The $50 fundraising target is certainly not a limit, the boys can raise above and beyond that figure if they feel like it.

Big ups to the brother Sevu Laqekoro for starting this whole thing off, and allowing me to jump on board.

If you want to throw a bit of coin down for a good cause, and are desperate to see 15 sloppy rigs bound the pavement for an hour or three, please give generously. Together we can achieve something greater than a headache and a booze poos on a Sunday morning.

John Laurenson's involvement (page creator)

I decided to get involved because I was sick of the drinking culture in Dunedin, and wanted to show that you can have a fun, memorable flat event that wasn't focussed around drinking. I hopped on the fundraising idea initially brought up by my mate Sevu, and it all just happened from there :)

Early birds  22 August 2017

Here's a photo of the boys making use of the 601 bar leaner after an early-morning session down on the waterfront. We bet the sun up this morning, feeling good about it now but we weren't halfway through. Big ups to Scotty for coming on his first training run with the 601 boys (yes the half is only 18 days out) and to Benny for smashing out his longest run ever!

Keep the love coming in, so grateful for all the donations and motivation that has come our way so far <3
