Doing something frightening as a tandem skydive to support Cranford hospice

Napier, Hawke's Bay

My husband Tom was diagnosed with cardiac sarcoma cancer in 2019 aged 30. He was given 6-12 months. The cancer had spread all over his body in 2020 after lockdown and he was in the care of cranford. He passed away in the hospice on March 30th. He has left behind 2 young kids.

The hospice were amazing to supporting both and I during his journey and our kids. Not only were they on call for us, they took him in as an inpatient, make sure he was pain free and looked after me. They offer counselling services for myself and the kids.

Going through this journey was scary, so I wanted to give back in away that scares me. I am frightened of heights and not a good flyer. I decided to do a tandem skydive with the help from Taupo tandem skydive. I have managed to rope in Cassandra who wants to do this experience with me.

How high we jump depends on the money fundraised:

$0-1999 - we jump 9000 ft

$2000-3999 - we jump 12000 ft

$4000 + we jump 15000 ft

We will be jumping in January 2022. thanks to Taupo Tandem Skydive.
