Fire the Kepler

I am going to be running the Kepler 60km ultramarathon, in my rural fire gear and helmet, to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.

Canterbury

After hearing about the work done by Ronald McDonald House South Island (www.rmhsi.org.nz), I decided that I should do something to help them out. Ronald McDonald House provides free accommodation and support to families who must travel to Christchurch or Invercargill for their child’s medical treatment. By removing the stressors of everyday life, families can focus on what matters most – their child.

Families can stay with Ronald McDonald House South Island for one or two nights, or many months. Regardless, they are never charged for their stay.

I am a volunteer firefighter in Ashburton. On the 1st of December, I will be running the Kepler challenge ( https://keplerchallenge.co.nz/kepler-challenge ). This is a 60 kilometre mountain ultra-marathon around the Kepler track in Te Anau. It includes climbing 1350 metres, before descending back down and running 30 km back to the start/finish. To raise money for Ronald McDonald House, I will be running this year in my rural fire gear and firefighting helmet. This will be the biggest run I have done in fire gear.

To complete the Kepler Challenge, I must cover the 60 km in less than 12 hours.

For Ronald McDonald House South Island to continue the amazing work they do, they need donations. I ask anyone who can, to support me in my run. Anything that you can give will help make a difference for Ronald McDonald House South Island and allow them to keep doing their work.

Mission Mt Somers  29 October 2018

Mission Mt Somers was the run I used to prove to myself I could do the Kepler. I've added some photos showing the gear I will be wearing for Kepler.

Thanks Glen Currie and the team at Enduranz for letting me run in this gear!
