Supporting NZ research into Sanfilippo disease. Top quality research at Massey University points to effective treatments for patients.

Nationwide

Sanfilippo disease is a severe neurological disease that appears in childhood. After a period of normal development, affected children lose language and other skills, suffer prolonged periods of agitation and hyperactivity, then go into a long period of decline before they die, usually in their teens or early adult years. Research on Huntaway dogs with Sanfilippo is discovering methods to deliver therapy, but there are significant cost to be met to breed, feed, house and care for the dogs between research grants. Help us make a difference for the next generation of kids like Cody and Joanne.

John Forman's involvement (page creator)

I'm the chair of Lysosomal Diseases NZ, a charity that provides information and support to families, and supports research into Sanfilippo and related diseases. We are raising funds to support important research that is happening right here in New Zealand. Researchers at Massey University have been working with other international experts on this disease, using a colony of Huntaway dogs that are affected by this disease. The research aims to discover the best means of delivering life-altering drugs into the central nervous system.
