I have grown my hair for almost two years now and in April I am going to cut my hair for charity.
Auckland
Hi I’m Mia Taverna, I’m 10 years old, and I go to Bayfield school, Herne Bay, Auckland.
Two years ago I was reading a book called “Strong is the new pretty”. It was about girls being themselves and staying strong. I flicked to a page and there was a photo of a young girl with short hair and she was holding up her hair that she had just cut off. The quote below said: “I grew my hair for a whole year to donate to sick kids who had lost theirs. I’m gonna do it again”. That six year old gave me the idea of growing my hair and then cutting it to my shoulders.
I have grown my hair for almost two years now and in April I am going to cut my hair to my shoulders and all the hair will go to a wig company where they make wigs out of real hair and give to people who lose their hair. As well as doing this I am going to raise money for the SPCA and Breast Cancer. The reason I want to raise money for the SPCA is because I love animals and when I grow up I want to be a vet. And the reason for Breast Cancer is because my grandmother died of it nearly 19 years ago. All the money raised will be split equally between the SPCA and Breast Cancer.
I’m excited to cut my hair and also see how much money I’ve raised for the charity’s that are special to me. Thank you so much, I appreciate all the support you guys are giving me!

Thank you so much for all the money you gave me for cutting my hair. Overall I collected $1,030! $515 for each charity. I’m so excited to finally cut my hair. Without you I wouldn’t of been able to do this. I’m so pleased with what I raised and once again thank you so much!😀😘🤪🥳🤩😎👍
