What I'll lose from shaving my hair is nothing compared to the gain from the money and hair I'm able to donate.
Wellington
A week ago I shaved my hair at a camp with the youth movement I am a part of. I have just now donated my 18 inches of hair to a kiwi wig making company based in Dunedin, Freedom Wigs. They create and donate human hair wigs to incredible people suffering from hair loss due to cancer or alopecia. I understand that not raising money ahead of time isn't how I'll raise the most money, but I stand by my reasons for doing so when I did: the camp I did it at is all about youth empowerment and it's a value of theirs to take action with causes that matter to you. There was also an incredible leader in this camp who'd done the same a year ago and, with her wise words and encouragement, stood by my decision to take this leap. I have always wanted to help out with this crazy worlds problems but I've found myself just not having the courage to take some of the actions that would align with my values (like going vegan). I'm so lucky to be able to grow my hair back, so why would I not help out kiwi's that cannot?
I'm an (almost) 16-year-old girl from Wellington, New Zealand. Through friends, family, and communities I am a part of, I know of too many people affected by cancer. Because of this, I've been motivated to shave and donate my hair to a local company, Freedom Wigs and now I'm taking the step of raising money for the Child Cancer Foundation. It would be an amazing birthday present if you donate anything you are able to. It all adds up! Thank you for any support!!
