I am running to fight the world's most deadly cancer and support the Lung Foundation New Zealand - Tuapapa Puukahukahu.
Wellington
As most of you will know, I have fairly recently taken running to the next level for me - I have completed a 10km run in February and now I am training for 21.1km, yes a half marathon, in May.
Why? Well, I have started to really enjoy running (wow, never thought I would ever say that!) and it also makes my lungs and heart stronger! This can only be a good thing in times of Covid-19 or SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) as we also know it, right? But if this wasn't enough of a reason to get into running more regularly, I have decided to raise money for the NZ Lung Foundation as lung diseases are rising and lung cancer is the most deadly cancer worldwide. Every year in New Zealand, more people die of lung cancer than of breast cancer, prostate cancer and melanoma combined. Furthermore, five years ago we lost an uncle to lung cancer, last year my Dad was diagnosed with COPD, my aunty passed away during surgery removing lung cancer and another aunty has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Greater access to better treatment for lung disease and lung cancer is needed and that is why I am raising awareness.
I am very motivated and determined to complete the half marathon running - believe me, it is my biggest challenge yet (last year 5km was already pushing it)!! I would be very grateful if you could please support me and give a little for the Lung Foundation NZ.
Too many people are dying from lung cancer including many close family. I am running for all those affected by lung cancer and lung disease, thank you for your support.
I DID IT! 10 May 2021
Last Saturday was the day - race day! I finished the run running which I am proud of and although it was one of the hardest and challenging things I have done in a very long time, thinking of all your generous donations helped me to keep going!
It wasn't an easy course but it was a great running day and beautiful scenery. Would you have asked me after the race if I would do it again I would have said a straight NO but 2 days later, I am already thinking of how I can improve my time next time ;-).
SO, thank you all for your support of me and the Lung Foundation NZ!!
Best, Daniela xx
