Raising funds for Parkinson's New Zealand by doing the Tough Mudder in November 2018

Nationwide

Parkinson's is a condition that not only takes away loved ones from their families, but it also takes life away from the person itself, leaving them a shell of what they used to be. Its a terrible condition that has no cure at present that causes a person to lose their ability to do what they used to do, they still have their wits and charm, but just not all of their skills that defined them. While there is no cure, there is an organisation that offers support, care and education for the persons and families, and loved ones. This organisation is the Parkinson's New Zealand.

This condition has effected me directly, via a close family member. It has changed my life in ways that I can't change back. While I feel I have come to grips with this change, it has also opened up my eyes up the condition and granted me the opportunity to do something. I can help by raising funds, supporting a organisation that alleviates the pain caused by the condition. In doing so I will be going through my own pain on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2018, which aligns with Parkinson awareness week. This pain involves participating in a back to back mud run called the Tough Mudder. Tough Mudder is a 18km mud run with obstacles, just to make the journey just a little bit more challenging. It will require physical training and mental grit, but compared to the mental grit of day to day Parkinson's, I consider myself lucky.

Please, join me on this journey to support this worthy cause, while I go through the hard yards of training, as a representation of what others go through on a day to day basis.

I have a family member directly affected by this condition, and wish to raise money and awareness by taking part on back to back days at Tough Mudder 2018

Done it and thank you all  7 November 2018

It is done. Finished both days, both with awesome teams that I met on the day. The purpose of this event is to help each other, and 'leave no one behind'. This couldn't have been more truthful on the day. Both days were cold, making the conditions tough, and contributed to a number of minor injuries. However, as a team we all finished and had a great time supporting each other on the day.

The good thing for me is that I am able to recover and relax, for others with Parkinson's, its not at easy, and that is what I respect the most for such people. Each day has the potential to be like this, and I can only imagine the mental strength and grit one has to have to push through them. kudos to those who push through with this condition and Kudos for those who support them!

But before i sign out, i would like to thank a few people:

Liam at the Gym (Fastlane Fitness), for pushing me each week and making me nearly curse him. without the dedication the days would have been much more tougher.

The two teams on each day. I entered as a individual, and quickly befriended them on the course We stuck together all the way through. Made the journey much more fun (even offered to carry each other over the finish line if needed!)

Every single donator here, every time I was on the course I was thinking of the moral and financial support each person offered.

Special mention to a crazy man (and his better half) that i met on the course with a cowbell to cheer everyone on, as well as support this cause financially.

and finally a big thank you to my wife and family who supported me throughout the preparation. and on the day.
