We're running the 12ks of Christmas to raise funds for Project Island Song!
Northland
From 1st to 12th December, Alex and I will be completing the 12ks of Christmas challenge for Project Island Song!
We’ll be taking on the Next Level 12ks of Christmas, where we’ll be running with a little bit of walking 12km every day for 12 days straight. This adds up to an epic 144km in total, which has a nice resonance as there are 144 islands in the Bay of Islands, seven of which are pest-free thanks to Project Island Song.
Project Island Song is a pest-free wildlife sanctuary covering seven islands in the eastern Bay of Islands. The community conservation partnership works to restore and protect the natural eco-systems and heritage of the Bay of Islands so that it is here for everyone, forever.
Since 2009, the project has eliminated pests from the islands, reintroduced 8 vulnerable native species, planted over 40,000 native trees, and engaged thousands of tamariki with our unique natural environment.
By sponsoring us to take part in the 12ks of Christmas, you’re helping to continue the restoration of these islands through supporting vital work including pest surveillance and control, volunteer weedbusting trips, species reintroductions, and more.
Day 7 - Parkrun plus 7km 7 December 2024
A change of scenery today, off to Whangarei where we did a 5km 'warm-up' prior to Parkrun then finished off with the final 2km to reach our 12kms.
Garmin has suggested a 72hour recovery period....hhhmmm not possible, we're out again tomorrow for another 12km. Only 60km to go!
A massive thank you to everyone who has donated. The whole team have now raised a combined $11,000, we're so close to our target goal with just 5 days left o the challenge.
Walking or running the 12ks of Christmas to rejuvenate the islands of Ipipiri, and bring the birdsong back to the Bay of Islands!
Thank you so much, it was great motivation at the end of the run this morning.
