CanterburyWe are a 4 person female adventure racing team from North Canterbury who are participating in the South Island Spirited Women’s adventure race in Marlborough- April 2021.
We are FUNDRAISING for the newly formed AYA CANCER CHARITABLE FUND managed by the Maia Foundation.
As a nurse specialist who works closely with young people undergoing cancer treatment I have seen them experiencing extremely tough and long journey’s at a really critical time in their lives. Some are still at school, some have to stop work or building their careers, and all struggle physically, emotionally and financially during this time.
The AYA CANCER CHARITABLE FUND KEY AIMS!
1. Provide a COMFORT & ENTERTAINMENT PACKS to each new young person diagnosed with cancer in the Canterbury, West Coast and Nelson/Marlborough region. This will have an overnight bag, “oodie” (weighted oversized hoodie/blanket), drink bottle, headphones, eye mask, mind games and more.
2. Provide PALLIATIVE CARE GRANTS to young people who are not going to survive their cancer. This will assist them to tick off some of their bucket list, and create memories with their friends & families.
3. Pay for FERTILITY PRESERVATION for young people who don’t qualify for MOH funding, e.g. young females who need to start treatment straight away.
