Hey team!

In August, I will be running the 62km Resilience ultra marathon to support an amazing initiative from the Māia Health Foundation by raising funds for a new Child, Adolescent & Family mental health centre in Christchurch. It’s a great cause to enhance Canterbury's youth mental health services and raise general mental health awareness.

Personally, I strongly believe mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it's not seen as a priority and often something to be ashamed of when you need help. It's normal to not always be 100%.

Sadly, since 2018 there has been a 140% increase in demand for this type service in Canterbury - 385 people a month reaching out for help and with only a few poorly resourced places to go. The current facility is dark, uninviting and for people who need this specialist help, a pretty intimidating place to visit.

The plans underway for a modern new outpatient hub will dramatically improve treatment facilities for adolescent and youth mental health services. While it is early days, the hub is partially funded by the CDHB and planning is well under way.

Funds raised will be used to help vulnerable people in our community be treated and cared for in an environment that supports their well-being. A place that they will want to go to for the help they need and to focus on being well.

It would be amazing if you could get behind this cause if you can! I'll be posting regular updates on my Instagram page of my journey to the 62km trail ultra in August. I'm aiming to raise as much awareness and funds towards this cause as I can - the sky's the limit :)

NEW CHALLENGE 102KM IN ONE DAY  4 September 2021

A massive thank you to everyone who has got involved so far. We're sitting on 70% of our target of $10,000. There's a little bit to go so I've decided to a add a new challenge to this campaign. In a little over six weeks I'll be running my first unsupported Ultra Marathon with a good running friend, Chris. We will be running 102km from the St James through Lake Sumner area, over the Harper pass, down to Otira and then finally picking our way up and over the Goat pass ( famously known as the mountain run in the Coast to Coast) finishing at the Bealey Pub for a cold beer! It's 102km of insane back country terrain with over 3000m of vertical! Sounds hard - but the good news is that I'll be selling each and every one of those hard earned km's for charity so that you don't have to run it. You'll get the knowledge that you've supported the Maia health foundation and that you've spurred me on for another km - who knows, you might by the last km that makes all the difference!

All you need to do is donate $20 on this page with some words of encouragement - I'll let you know what km is yours!
