Participating in Joyride '25
Christchurch, Canterbury
In Kolkata, a lot of kids don’t get to enjoy just being kids. Poverty and modern slavery don’t leave much room for fun or joy in their lives. Your donation funds spaces and activities where kids can just play, laugh, and hang out.
We are a bunch of mates that like riding our bikes so we wanted to use our fun to make money for their fun.
We are going to ride the height of Everest – 8,849m – up the Rapaki Track. Team B (Brad) is going to do it alone, and Team A (the rest of us) are going to support him, riding alongside in a relay. We have to do 32 climbs in one single day!
Team A is Trevor van den Bogaert, Wayne Murray, Dave Wilson, Richard Copeland, Craig McInnes, Peter Elliott, Angus Bargh, Murray Dwyer, Nick Regnault, Mark Johnston and any other keen beans we can persuade to come.
Job Done! 10 November 2025
Saturday 8th November dawned with fog on the lower slopes and promise of a hot dry day, temperatures hitting 25deg. The team and many supporters collectively rode up Rapaki Track 131 times, scaling the height of Everest several times over. We rode almost 1000kms and the sole rider of Team B, Brad MacFarlane, managed 6,000m of climbing achieved by riding for 11hrs. Best of all was all the interest and conversations about JOYYA and we smashed our target of $10,000. Thank you everyone for all the support. A BIG thank you to Pringle Homes for sponsoring riders, ABC Portoloo, McVICAR, CORDE for the mobile barbeque and the HALSWELL BUTCHER for the delicious sausages.
