Riding the length of NZ for our Youth

For some time I have wanted to challenge myself by cycling from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Tour Aotearoa has organised an event where registered riders ride the length of the country on mountain bikes mostly on back roads and cycle trails. Riders complete the 3000 km journey unsupported carrying all of our equipment. Two friends and I will start the ride on 8 February 2025 and hope to complete the journey in under 30 days.

As well as the personal satisfaction which we will derive from successfully completing this challenge, I would like to use the opportunity to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause.

Youth Hub Christchurch has the vision of enabling all young people in Canterbury the opportunity to lead healthy, safe and valued lives, fulfilling their potential and vibrantly contributing to their community.

The Trust has completed stage 1 of a significant new building project which will provide residential accommodation for up to 22 young people. The trust has plans for the development of further facilities next year and needs funding to assist completion.

I am hoping that you or organisations with which you are associated will support this fundraising effort through sponsoring our ride. A suggestion is you commit to a certain amount per kilometre travelled. One cent per kilometre raises $30, 10 cents raises $300, $1 raises $3000. I will personally be contributing this amount. Would an organisation be prepared to sponsor us at $10 per kilometre?
