Run for Mum

Kia Ora!

In October 2021 our family received some devastating news. After a period of intense headaches and a routine trip to her GP, my Mum was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. Over the last eight months, Mum has been in and out of hospital following surgery and has undergone months of radiation and chemotherapy.

My Mum is an absolute superhero. She continues to wake up every day and take on life head-on despite a poor prognosis.

We have recently received the wonderful news that her tumour is currently responding to treatment. Mum continues to fight the good fight and we couldn't be more proud of her.

I have decided (extremely last minute) to run 10km in the Selwyn Marathon event on Sunday 5th June to honour Mum. I'm hoping to raise $1000 for Brain Tumour Support NZ, an awesome charity that provides support, guidance, advocacy and information to patients and families of those suffering from brain cancer.

I also want to use this opportunity to raise awareness for brain cancer and advocate for the many people in NZ diagnosed with this horrible disease every year. There are 18 beneficial cancer medications that are funded in Australia that are not available to patients here in Aotearoa. It's time that this changes.

Mum, you are wise, caring, fierce, loyal and loved by so many. I love you so much. Cheers to you!
