CCNZ support people with Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. The ChCh gastro team are running in the Q'town marathon to support them
Canterbury
15,000 people in New Zealand live with Crohn's disease or Ulcerative colitis. These are incurable diseases of the gut with many debilitating symptoms that can make life tough. Peak age of onset is 15-30 but many young children are diagnosed. CCNZ (Crohn's and Colitis New Zealand) provide support, education and networking for these people and their families.
They ran their first camp for kids with IBD last year and it was so successful that there is another one planned for January 2016. These camps are only possible with generous donations from companies and individuals so we are running the Queenstown Marathon to raise funds.
From the gastro department in Christchurch hospital we have 10 people running, 4 are doing the full marathon (!) and 6 are running the half. And there are quite a few first-timers in there!
We would love it if people get behind our efforts (excuse the pun) and donate to this super worthwhile cause!
We work with people who have these diseases and see how they struggle on a daily basis. We are running the Q'town marathon and would love to be able to support the kids camp next year.
