Running For Cancer Society

  • For Pop <3

So we are now officially 10 days out until the Air New Zealand Queenstown Half Marathon.

I thought things were getting real, but now that I am almost single digits out from the event, things are very real.

I have a total of $631.00 to give to the Cancer Society, I am not very far away from $1000 I would like to give, but again as I have mentioned before I am grateful for every cent already given.

On the 1st of November Poppa lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Pop passed away just a year after getting told he had cancer. He fought a good fight but lost in on saints day. Which is now known as saints Owens day. The 7th of November was Pops funeral, which I can gladly say from the many stories told on that day, he had the best life. A number of people that came to the funeral was amazing! the chapel only sat 120 people and there were people standing up and the doors were open so people can stand outside. The 7th of November was the hardest day. Saying goodbye to someone who has been in my life for my whole life, who has touched my life, and who has taught me many life lessons along the way. So now this run is to make Pop proud. Finish the race and do events like this more often.

So please if anyone has a spare $1 can you please donate. If not for me, for Pop as he has touched more than one of us throughout his life.

and Pop I will have a gin for you at the end of the run <3

  • ONE MONTH TO GO

      18 October 2017

As per normal, it has taken me awhile to write something up again.

But from today it is one month until I do my half marathon. Seems a bit surreal that I am doing this and I am so overwhelmed by all the support I am getting from everyone.

My training has increased a lot over the last month, I am running every day with the increase in my strength training. What has been the hardest while running longer than 3km is not going out too fast otherwise I won't make the 10km mark. This has been my main focus to make sure I pace myself and take it easy because at the end of the day I am running 21km and I want to be able to do this in 2 hours 10 mins. But if it takes me longer I am not worried either.

While I was at home in my study break I went and saw my Pop in the hospital which is something I do want to experience again, and motivated me more to raise as much as I can to get the research done so that we can find a cure to this horrible disease.

I currently in my second week of my final term of study, which is getting crazy busy with much more work to do. As well as Craig moving up north next Saturday and organizing people to move in and me moving out. Finding time to make sure I get everything completed and organize myself for the rest of year is rather challenging. BUT in 9 weeks time, I would have finished my full-time study and actually graduated from something ( I didn't finish high school ) so this is a big this for me. Once I finish studying I am also moving back up north, to the Bay of Islands, this is to be closer to home, save some money and to experience a different place. I am going to be a kayak guide over the summer season which I am looking forward too.

For my studies, we also go on explore which is a boot camp for 5 nights, which is the week before my run so it will be good training for me.

My aim is to get $500 for this run, but from looking at today I am almost there! so if I can get to $1000 then that would be amazing. But I am also thankful for whatever I do raise, as I have everyone who has donated to me to thank and I wouldn't have got this far with any you guys.

I don't have anything else to update as of now, but again I am thankful for everyones support.

  • BIG BIG NEWS

      12 September 2017

So it is about 2 months out to the Queenstown half marathon! I am getting very excited!

I have up my runs in times, length and adding more weights to my workouts. Although I have recently been working out in the gym due to Queenstown thinking that spring snow would be a good idea for about 3 days. Although snow is bloody great and fun to play in, it is bloody freezing!

I named this blog post-BIG BIG NEWS! so in the nature of that, I will give you some news.

My older brother Marcus is not able to make it down to Queenstown to support my run, so he decided to jump on board and thought that he would go on the assault bike and do 4200 calories, he reckons this would take him about five hours to complete. Marcus is completing this bike on the same day of my run. The 18th of November.

So not only will everyone be supporting me in raising money for the Cancer Society, but also Marcus.

It is going to be one hectic day for both for us. I am aiming to complete my marathon in two hours.

In the mean time, I have exam weeks next week and a two-week break coming up, which I am looking forward to.

I will be doing more updates as we get closer to both of the events.

Marcus and I thank everyone for the current support and the on going support we have. Lets hope we can raise $1000!

  • Less than 3 Months out !

      25 August 2017

So I have realized I haven't done an update in awhile.

There has been a bit of a pause in my training. As I have got injured. Not quite sure what I have done, but from what I can gather is that I have very tight calf muscles and it is pulling all the way through into my heels. This makes it very painful for me to run, I am not allowed to do HITT training. BUT!!! not only have I been injured I have got very sick. Sinus infection and conjunctivitis, so I have been off training for the two and a half weeks ):

But to make up my missed training, I have been doing a lot for the Cancer Society in Queenstown. I have met the wonderful ladies who run the organization down here in Queenstown. Who has written something up about me. Some of you would have seen it on facebook. And today 25th August I have been out volunteering for Daffidol day for three hours. People are so generous and I meet some wonderful people with some very sad stores.

School has been pretty hectic with multiple exams and massive assignments due all at the same time. I am looking forward to finishing off my studies and getting back into the work force! I miss having a constant income, but I am learning how to budget along the way!

I hope to start training again next week, not long until November! I am so nervous but I know it will be an exciting experience on the day!

Thank you all for the support again

  • 15 Weeks out!!!

      8 August 2017

15 Weeks. 15 Weeks to get into gear to run 21km.

I often wonder why I would put myself through running 21km, but I have done one, so why not do another one for a good cause.

I have been training quite well. After studying all day, I aim to do at least 30km of cardio a week. I often find running gets boring, so I change up my cardio from the bike, cross trainer and going on hikes on my days off. I am quite lucky as a person to have a good base fitness but to do anything longer than 2.5km I have had to work for and I have definitely got there. I am now able to run 5km + comfortably. It may not be fast but it least I can do it.

My goal for the half marathon is to complete it in 2 hours. So I am aiming to do 10.5km in an hour.

On the 25th of August it is Daffodil day, I will be helping the Cancer Society in Queenstown and trying to get some collections. I have also got permission to make up a flyer for my fundraising event for the marathon. I also will be running in a bright Cancer Society top on the day of the marathon which I have already been given, so I guess you wont miss me on the day.

There is 15 weeks out to raise as much money as I can for the Cancer Society. But not only for them but for my Grandad who has been through so much and I want to make him proud and do this for him. So please I ask as many as you as I can, please if you have a spare $1 around please donate for such a good cause.

I thank everyone for there donations already, and I will also be running for everyone who donated some money.

If anyone has any questions please let me know !

  • Why?

      26 July 2017
    Main image

I don't know why I thought I would do this. Right a blog, or start a give a little page or even decide to run a half marathon. I don't know why it took my Grandad getting the big C for me to do all of this. But isn't it odd were motivation comes from.

I'm not writer I defiantly cannot spell. So if you see spelling mistakes or a sentence that doesn't make sense. Don't worry about it because I do not.

One thing I know why I did this, is because I want to make a difference. There are so many charities out there doing something for many different things. But I personally want to do a difference. Cancer is s****, it affects so many people every year. I am no expert on it. But I have seen personally what it does to people.

So on the 18 of November 2017 I am running the Queenstown Half Marathon. Rasing money for the Cancer Society, who I am so excited to be working with. I am using a give a little page to raise money. As well as hopefully doing other events within the Queenstown Community to raise more funds. This is TBC as I am a full time student as well.

This blog is to update everyone on what I am doing and count down the days to the event.

If you would like to give a little donation feel free to follow the link https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/running4grandad

OR if you are in Queenstown on the 18th of November please feel free to come down to the finish line on the day!

I am so thankful for all the support I am getting already!
