During lock down here in Christchurch our family felt inspired to take on a dance challenge, after watching a fun post by a family grooving to the tunes of "Hold my Hand" by Jess Glynne. Over the following days while we were rehearsing our dance moves we heard the news of two new babies being rescued into the care of the Fountain of Peace Babies Home in Uganda, a precious wee girl aged just 4 weeks old and a precious boy aged 10 weeks old. It was also on the first day of our dance challenge rehearsal that we had been due to hold our Peter Rabbit 2 movie fundraiser here in Christchurch in which we had hoped to raise $2000 for Fountain of Peace. This of course had been postponed due to the current world situation. With these things on our hearts and in our minds and during this extremely challenging and uncertain time in the world, our little family of four decided to make our sweat on the dance floor count. So we turned our dance challenge into the Sharr Family - Dance with a Purpose, fundraising for Fountain of Peace Children's Foundation NZ.
For those of you who are new to Fountain of Peace NZ, this amazing organisation was established in New Zealand in 2012 by executive director Jane Laurie and is working in the rural Kyenjojo District of Western Uganda. In this extremely impoverished district subsistence farming is the main source of income where farmers earn only around NZ $0.70 cents per day and families often survive on one meal a day. The main aim of Fountain of Peace is to create family based homes for orphaned and abandoned children. They are also doing amazing work helping to provide clean water, education, health care and sustainable projects for the whole community.
Since 2012 so much has been achieved including the rescue of 53 orphaned or abandoned babies who are now all thriving in the care of Fountain of Peace at their Bethel Babies Home and Family Based Homes, including the two newest arrivals mentioned above.
All of these babies are initially cared for in the Bethel Babies Home before transitioning to a Family Home along with seven of their 'new' brothers, sisters and mother. This becomes their ‘forever home’. At present there are four Family Based Homes, two of which have been funded by New Zealanders; Kiwi House and Arohanui House. The Bethel Babies Home and Family Based Homes make up the Children's Village.
If you would like to make a donation towards the care of these babies and children we would be so truly grateful. To learn more or to make a regular donation from as little as $5 per week ($20 per month) please go to www.fountainofpeace.org.nz. Every dollar counts towards making a true and lasting difference!
Thank you SO much for coming and checking out our Dance with a Purpose Give a Little Page. If you would like to have your own family dance challenge we would LOVE to see your dance moves! But be prepared with LOTS of bribes for your children and husband! (We found chocolate worked well!)
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during these extremely challenging times. May God bless you and your family and keep you all safe.
