Help stop the leaks and protect our nation's treasures

  • Thank you for helping us reach our fundraising goal

      11 May 2023

With a few more hits of the refresh button, our target has been reached, but still with a day to go!

All donations we receive until the end of the campaign at midnight on Friday will go towards fixing the spouting and drainage issues that plague the Museum and protecting the taonga in our care.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We are humbled and heartened that so many of you care for our heritage as much as we do! Your generosity has kept alive the legacy begun by our late founder, Murray Thacker so many years ago.

Thank you to Jen of Groundwork and her father, Roger Gilbert QSM for supporting two match-funding promotions that when matched contributed $3000 towards the target. Thank you to all the donors who supported these match fund promos.

With $9,600, in online and offline donations, we are so close to the $10K milestone!

Tomorrow we will launch another match funding opportunity from a generous donor, which we hope will get us even closer to our $15,700 target.

A BIG thank you to Newstalk ZB, Akaroa Mail and Bay Harbour News Star News Christchurch for covering our story this week!

Our caretaker Rick, who is renovating the whare waka, came up with the idea of placing copies of the newspapers behind the new jib to mark the occasion. A kind of time capsule for discovery by those long after we have all gone!

Have an excellent weekend and thank you for sharing the campaign and donating. Together we can do this!

Thank you to all those who provided match funding to achieve this, and to Trade Direct for getting us across the line with their donation of $1000!

Combined with our offline donations, we are currently sitting around $8k so half way there!

Today we launched our crowdfunding campaign to raise $15,700 to replace our spouting. With the help of many generous donors here on Givealittle and privately, combined with the profit from the sale of our poppy brooches, we are a third of the way to reaching our goal!
