Point2Point30 is a free 30km charity walk across Auckland where the walkers will also be removing litter from the footpaths

Auckland

At 10 am on the 29th of September, 2019, I will begin a 30km walk across the City of Auckland, from Coyle Park in Point Chevalier to Point England Reserve in Point England. My route will take me through Herne Bay, under the Harbour Bridge, into Silo Park and the Wynyard Quarter, along Quay Street and Tamaki Drive, around Hobson Point, Bastion Point and Achilles Point and down Riddell Road. The final four Kilometres will see me walking through Roberta Reserve, Tahuna Torea Reserve and the Wai O Taiki Nature Reserve. I'm aiming to maintain a steady 5km per hour pace, meaning that I will arrive in Point England Reserve around 4pm.

Why am I doing this? I want to help a couple of fantastic charities that provided the inspiration behind my long-term goal. My long term goal is to make plogging New Zealand's #1 recreational activity and help people of all ages, shapes and sizes to reconnect with their local community in a manner that also improves/increases their physical and mental health/well-being. The research suggests that there are far too many unhealthy and unhappy people currently living in Aotearoa. The nation's obesity and suicide rates are unacceptable and I want to try and reduce them by getting more and more New Zealanders off their arse, out of their houses and cars and onto the footpath. Plogging builds communitas. Plogging is also contagious.

What is Plogging? It's picking up litter whilst jogging or walking. For more information, please visit the Pathway to Plogging page on my new website, Walk On Aotearoa, www.walkingtall.life

I took part in a cleanup event organised by Sustainable Coastlines and was inspired by why they exist, how they operate and what they do. The OKE Charity provided me with the inspiration behind creating the Point 2 Point Walk.

Well done Rich - sorry I couldn't walk part of it with you, but did do some plogging in my own Browns Bay backyard instead :)
