Walking 6km with 20L to increase access to engineering
Auckland
There are still millions of people who have to walk several kilometres every day to fetch water. Besides the provision of clean water there are many other infrastructure services people lack access to that limit their opportunities in life. I would even argue it is fairly obvious that technology is the major driving force that has lifted billions around the world out of poverty over the past 200 years and more.
Engineers Without Borders NZ (EWBNZ) is working hard to help make sure everyone in New Zealand and the South Pacific has access to water, electricity, transport, shelter, communications, food production, manufacturing technologies, and engineering capabilities required to lead a life of opportunity, free from poverty.
EWBNZ’s current partnerships and projects include a partnership with Volunteer Service Abroad – supporting engineers from NZ to work with the Department of Water Resources in Vanuatu, and a project to implement solar distillation units for water treatment in Kiribati. EWBNZ is still a fairly young charity; just over 10 years old. This year is particularly exciting for EWBNZ as we now have a full-time chief executive for the first time; which will help us achieve much more of the organisation's potential.
I would be really grateful for your support for what I believe is an amazing organisation, to help us increase access to the opportunities engineering provides. If you would like to support me in this fundraiser, please consider making a donation.

I am participating in the Walk for Water to support EWBNZ as their engineers and humanitarians work hard to build the capacity of local engineers so that they can design, operate and maintain locally sourced supplies in a culturally appropriate context.
