Walking Sunbeams

The Cancer Society normally run a major fundraiser called Walking Stars in November which has had to be cancelled this year due to Covid. In a small way we still wanted to help out due to their large loss of fundraising for this cancelled event. Neil and I have been doing the walk each year since 2016 which was when we sadly lost our only daughter Hayley, to cancer. We have a lovely rural garden out at Waitoki which we have developed/planted out and dedicated to the memory of Hayley, plus the use of a neighbors property who have a walking track. Our walking event will be on Sunday 8th November but will be during the day so we have named it Walking Sunbeams instead of Walking Stars which is normally run at night. We have friends and family who have said they are keen to do the walk and now we are back at Level 1(fingers crossed it stays that way) we can go about getting it organized. The entry fee for Walking Sunbeams of $24.00 for an individual or $48.00 for a family is based on that it costs on average $24.00 for a volunteer to transport a person to a cancer medical appointment or for treatment. Now there is a direct link to the Cancer Society set up the entry fee will go straight to the Cancer Society and a receipt sent out. We hope that the weather will be good on the 8th November and we can enjoy the day catching up with friends and family while we walk. The walk will start at 11am for those wanting to do the full 21kms, the track is 3.5kms around so 6 laps, those wanting to walk less can come in behind the leaders depending on which lap they want to start at. This way everyone will finish together about 4 hours later.
