Action Education is Aotearoa's leading spoken word / youth development organisation. With over 40 years of experience in the youth sector, we have developed our methods to resonate with and re-engage youth in their journey of self-development, education, personal growth, and self-expression.

Our Vision is to “Enable rangatahi to express their authenticity while growing a vibrant community that supports them” and our Mission is “To strengthen identity and develop self-esteem through creative self-expression, using the medium of spoken word poetry”.

We have an emphasis on reaching stigmatized, disadvantaged, and marginalised rangatahi and communities and we are a āhuru mōwai (warm and protective shelter) where rangatahi feel safe and supported to be themselves.

More about us

For more than 40 years our programmes have engaged, nurtured, and inspired rangatahi. They have given rangatahi space to reflect, connect and grow. We use Spoken Word Poetry as our vehicle of engagement because of its power in its accessibility and directness - and - it belongs to anyone and everyone who is willing to tell their story. Through story telling we’ve found that it breaks down stereotypes, builds community connection and resilience within individuals and groups.
