Providing opportunities for young women to build better futures
Auckland
YWCA Auckland is part of the world’s largest women’s organisation, a global network of 25 million women leading social and economic change in over 125 countries worldwide.
We have a proud heritage of providing free community programmes in Auckland for 130 years. These programmes deliver on our mission: to not rest until every woman is able to fulfil her potential. We work actively to help women realise better futures, believing that strong, successful women (however that is self-defined) build strong, successful communities.
Our purpose is: Driven to give women the opportunity to realise a better future. Our values that guide all our work and interactions are: pioneering, integrity, diversity, respect, passion.
Our community programmes focus on four strategic pillars:
1. Leadership:
Future Leaders is a mentoring and leadership skills programme for young disadvantaged women aged 14-18.
2. Economic Independence:
Money Savvy, our dynamic financial literacy programme, aims to give young people the gift of financial capability for life. We also run a national Equal Pay Awards campaign.
3. Safe Spaces:
We deliver Safe for Life, powerful three-hour workshops designed to educate people on skills and strategies to keep out of harm’s way. There is an emphasis on safety around alcohol. We also operate a safe and secure hostel at 103 Vincent Street, Auckland.
4. Wellbeing:
We operate various modules within our Future Leaders programme focused on mental, physical and psychological wellbeing.
We challenge the gender status quo with everything we do. Our work nurtures young women’s leadership and amplifies their experiences and voices. We are advocates for change so the real world matches young women’s expectations.
For every girl. For every woman. For every right.
