Auckland
BARK volunteers (a dog and their handler) go into local pre-schools, schools or other learning facilities to teach kids the safest way to interact with dogs. BARK volunteers are trained to deliver our structured lesson plans and all dogs are assessed to meet an international qualification.
We also work one on one with some children - helping them to overcome learning difficulties and personal challenges.
From our beginnings in 2013 we have grown to cover all corners of the North Island, so far reaching more than 20,000 children with our Dogwise Kiwi Kids program teaching the right way to approach and interact with dogs they meet on the street - or even their own family pets.
BARK NZ is New Zealand's only children's charity dedicated to the delivery of Animal Assisted Education, empowering children to feel confident and be safe with and around dogs.
