Bringing Linwood Cemetery Alive!

Canterbury

The Friends of Linwood Cemetery is a small volunteer group of self-appointed guardians of Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch. Through public awareness, events and fund-raising, we maintain and enhance this 20-acre burial place of many of Christchurch (and NZs) mover and shakers. We have pressured the City Council to install new gates. Ensured heritage recognition of the cemetery by getting the Council to create a Conservation Plan. Raised money to provide a bench and, prior to the EQs, fund raised to professionally restore 10 headstones. Our website informs people of the Trust's work, the cemetery's heritage value and the Trust can be contacted by descendants to access information about the state of an ancestor's grave.
