Belong - Believe - Become
Our Vision: To guide and support Hawkes Bay youth to live lives they value
Our Mission: Use the discipline of Olympic style amateur boxing to provide skills, support, opportunity and development for youth, their whanau and Aotearoa
Our Values: Courage, Discipline, Leadership, Respect, Authenticity
The Hawke's Bay Youth Trust is a trust established to work with the Youth of Hawke's Bay. The primary vehicle for the HBYT is Hastings Giants Boxing Academy. We facilitate the growth of 90 young men ranged in age from 8 to 24 and 18 young women from 9-14 as well as numerous school groups. Our team consists of two paid employees and around 30 volunteers. We work closely with schools, the police, family violence unit, the council, and key businesses within HB.
Boxing is our vehicle.... but it is only a tool.... we are so much more than that, with home visits, career support, dedicated mentoring, and overriding it all, fostering a sense of community and safety. Everyone who walks through our doors is welcomed, and many of our members regard Giants Boxing as their home.
Craig and the volunteer coaching team offer the youth of Hawkes Bay a unique opportunity for Olympic style boxing in order to engage and encourage young people towards the values of respect, team work, and resilience.
We're a little bit about boxing and a lot about life.
Craig McDougall is one of only two paid staff of the academy. He provides the consistent back bone of this organisation, facilitating the academy classes, managing the mentors and coaches, and driving the youth we support to succeed.
We have made a trust endorsed decision not to charge fees that would put our facility out of the reach of members of the community that benefit the most from it, which is why we request funding from amazing people such as yourself.
The Hawkes Bay Youth Trust T/A the Hastings Boxing Academy was established in 2015 by Craig McDougall and aims to instil discipline and provide a structure of Olympic style boxing to teach young boys, girls, and men how to be fit, well-mannered and active members of our community.
