KASM (Kiwis Against Seabed Mining) West coast community based not for profit organisation set up to protect marine and coastal environment.
Unspecified
Two years ago, the Environmental Protection Agency turned down a bid to mine the seabed for black sand - in the South Taranaki Bight off the coast of Patea.
Now this company, Trans Tasman Resource is back.
The company is applying to mine in the same site - with the same destructive environmental impacts the EPA turned down. This company apparently has more 'modelling' to show a lessened impact of this destructive mining; but they will not release this information to KASM or the public (until 20 days before deadline – too late to get our experts to scrutinise it).
You, the people who live here and care about the health of our oceans, spoke out against this New, Untested, Highly Destructive Experimental method of mining.
We must once again stand TOGETHER to tell the government and overseas companies that NZ is NOT open for business for this environmentally destructive mining.
Please help us fight for our oceans – donate what you can today.
KASM are a spontaneous community-based action group, who strongly oppose any non-essential seabed mining.
Our objectives are to raise public awareness of current proposals to mine the New Zealand seabed and coastline, educate and inform the public as to the consequences of those proposals, and ensure that current and future governments stop considering these and any future ?seabed mining operations.
In so doing, we intend to protect and preserve these unique areas of coastline for future generations to enjoy.
