Please help us ensure we can provide free school visits to Kaikōura's little blue penguin colony and continue to improve their habitat
Canterbury
Kaikōura is home to a very small colony of little blue penguins of less than 10 breeding pairs.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Kaikōura on November 14, 2016 caused significant damage to their already compromised habitat.
Despite KORI volunteer efforts to improve their very urban habitat, dogs, cats, vehicles, coastal erosion and continued habitat loss, all pose significant threats to this fragile colony.
We are a network of marine researchers and educators who are committed to protecting what is here in Kaikōura. We believe that this combination of research and education is key to our conservation goals. We are a registered non-profit charity in NZ.
Funds raised will be used to build a better safer habitat for Kaikoura's little blue penguin colony. This will include planting native vegetation, building more nest boxes, a predator proof fence (with access for penguins of course) and signage to increase awareness about our small fragile colony.
