Wellington

Our current playing frame is 26 years old and has less than a years life left. We desperately need help to raise $37,138 to replace her!

Our playing frame is used daily by our school children, the onsite OSCAR programme, as well as by many local children from the wider community. It is a valued piece of equipment that for many children has brought hours of happiness.

Whilst obtaining quotes to begin fundraising for a replacement, it became apparent that the need to replace her was far more urgent than we realised. A number of issues were identified, some easily fixed for the interim until we raise the funds. But one major issue is the current slide. Sadly it has exposed fiber glass,  which can be a serious health issue. The slide has now been removed and the kids are missing this vital part of the frame. Linden School’s students range from five to 11 years old and they all loved our old green slide - “Squashed Bananas” was a very popular activity, enjoyed by all! To replace the slide we need  $1,834.

The total cost of a new playground is $37,138. The Ministry of Education does not fund playgrounds, so we as a community need to fund this ourselves. We will be able to transfer the slide to the new playground, so it won't be wasted.

This cost does not include the installation, which will be done by our supportive community.

With less than a year to find the whole amount  needed to replace the playground we are busy organising an Easter Gala and other events to try and raise funds. This is the only playground that our school has, it is a huge asset to the school as well the wider community. It would be heartbreaking if we had to temporarily close her down.

Linden School has many supporters in the community, but we need financial help... any amount will be greatly appreciated.

More about us

Linden School is a community school that has been serving the Linden and Tawa area since 1952. With this long and proud history, the school has pupils from New Entrant level to Year 6. Most of our students live within walking distance of the school in the local Linden Community, which we are proud to be the hub for.

Here at Linden School our focus is on quality teaching and respectful relationships to ensure every student achieves their potential. The school ethos and quality relationships that exist at all levels fosters a ‘whanau’ feeling with an atmosphere of inclusion, co-operation and respect. We believe that quality outcomes for each child results from strong partnerships between students, teachers, whanau, and community. We continue to focus on building these relationships and on providing high quality educational programmes where every student is valued and their passion for learning is developed.

We aim to build a community of learners who drive their learning, strive hard during their learning,

and then thrive on their successes.

Use of funds

Fundraising in the first instance is to replace our slide. The cost of this is $1834. This is a priority to be able to keep our play area open until we have the funds to replace the whole structure. The new slide can then be transferred to our new frame.

We will then continue to raise the $37,138 to replace the whole frame.
