Tired of telling your kids to eat their greens?

The MYbody trust is building a fun and interactive game to teach kids how food can nourish (or deplete!) their bodies.

Belgian-born project manager Inge Mautz-Cooreman teamed up with nutrition (Ben Warren - BePure), education and gaming experts (Stephen Knightly- Ingame), graphic design company ( Inspire Group) to develop the interactive simulation game MYbody. Using experiential learning and game psychology, children will play different scenarios about how various foods interact with different organs. In order to progress in the game, they will have to understand the consequences of their own decision on their body and energy levels.

We’re co-designing the MYbody with a focus group of [10-14] year olds who’ll make sure we develop a game fit for purpose!

Why? Telling kids some foods are good or bad for them has no impact unless they understand how their stomach, liver, blood, small and large intestines deal with food. They’ll only be motivated to change eating habits when they can see the relevance to their daily life.

By playing this simulation game, our kids will be empowered to think about what they eat and make positive changes for a long, healthy and energetic life.

The game will be free, and available online using most devices and computers. Our partners will distribute the game to NZ primary and secondary schools.

More about us

Belgium-born project director Inge Mautz-Cooreman drew on her experience as a mother, public policy researcher and project manager when setting up The MYbody Education charitable trust. The goal of the charity is to develop an interactive simulation game teaching kids how food affects their body and mind. Inge has teamed up with nutrition, education and gaming experts to show kids how food travels through the body and gets used as fuel. This creative digital experience aims to transform their thinking and change behavior around food.

Our experts are guided by our focus group of kids aged [10-14] who’ll make sure we develop a game fit for purpose!

The game will be free, and available online using most devices and computers. The Ministry of Education will, along with our other partners, distribute the game to NZ primary and secondary schools.

The trust aims to raise $81,000 through fundraising and collaboration with social conscious NZ companies and philanthropists.

What has happened since we last spoke?

Finding the right people - who share our passion to develop a health based online interactive game - is not easy. But guess what, I think we might just have found the right partner: Inspire Group.

Inspire Group is a local design company that has already a few award winning e-Learning modules to its name. They invited our team for a workshop which resulted in the creation of a high level game concept. This is a great step forward because I can add this visual concept to all the grant applications going forward. As they say; 'An image tells more than a thousand words.'

But wait, there is more...

Last week, The Lions Foundation Johnsonville organised a great event around Type 2 diabetes awareness. At the event, I was introduced to our local MP, met with the Chief Executive Diabetes New Zealand and had a chat with Dr Jeremy Krebs of the University of Otago. So we have a visual concept, my networking skills are improving and my circle of supporters is growing, the only thing left to do is successfully apply for grants, can't be that hard right?
