The Otago Central Rail Trail Trust assists the Department of Conservation to improve the rail trail for people to enjoy.
Otago
The formation of the Otago Central Rail Trail Trust (OCRT Trust) in 1994 was initiated by the Department of Conservation (DOC) for the purpose of attracting external funding for the transformation of the original Otago Central rail line to a “Rail Trail”. Trustees were selected to represent local businesses and communities along the trail and subsequently their activities have contributed several million dollars towards the initial development and later enhancements.
The Trail now contributes more than $12 million to the local economy annually, continuing to create business opportunities and revitalising small communities.
Improving the facilities on the trail like information boards, and looking at opportunities to enhance the trail further
THANK YOU -WE HAVE MADE IT 29 June 2016
We are thrilled with the many generous donations that have come in. And very humbled to get the support. This afternoon we have been able to confirm the contract and we hope to take ownership within a matter of days. Work will begin almost immediately to get the buildings open and to do some maintenance on the wagons. Thank you for making it possible.
We will need funding for the ongoing improvements at the station so if you want to assist all donations appreciated
