Pacific Leprosy Foundation

Pacific Leprosy Foundation

Founded by Patrick Twomey ('The Leper Man') in 1939, we are only charity supporting leprosy affected patients and their families in New Zea

Canterbury

We make a difference by helping those with social or economic disadvantage due to leprosy to have independence, self-esteem, medical treatment, education and good housing. We work hard to raise awareness of the continuing problem of leprosy in the Pacific and New Zealand.

Numbers of leprosy patients are declining throughout the South Pacific; many of our former patients are now leading busy and productive lives thanks to the education which we paid for, or the income generation scheme which we funded. They are able to feel valued in their communities once more.
