Paekakariki Surf Lifeguards

Paekākāriki Surf Lifeguards is a volunteer club on the Kāpiti Coast, in desperate need of funds for a new building.

Wellington

Paekākāriki Surf Lifeguards is a volunteer surf lifesaving club on the Kāpiti Coast, just outside of Wellington, New Zealand. Our membership is made up of over 200 members across both junior and senior divisions.

We have over 80 active lifeguards who patrol Paekākāriki Beach throughout the summer and support in providing event crew to events such as the Ocean Swim Series and the Kapiti Women's Triathlon. We're also there to help the public in Queen Elizabeth II park, which has over 800,000 visits every year. And if there's anyone in trouble at sea on the whole Kāpiti coast, we're the first to be called.

Our junior surf programme teaches surf skills to over 100 'nippers' each season, and introduces them to the sport pathway that also develops our lifeguards' skills.

Surf Sport events are held over the summer providing local, national and international competition for Surf Sport Lifeguards. There are a large variety of beach and water activities involved in Surf Sport disciplines including: swim, board, ski, run, canoe, surf boat and inflatable rescue boat (IRB).

There are also national pool competitions where members compete in swimming, rescue, and obstacle races.

While we have a proud history in supporting our community, we now need the community to support us. Our building was demolished in November 2022 and we're currently operating from containers. We are raising funds for a new community facility that will ensure lifeguards continue to support the Kāpiti Coast for years to come.

Perfect day for our ground breaking and blessing  10 March 2024

And the ground is officially broken! Life member Joost Brinck, with support from one of our youngest members Lexie Garton, turned the first sod on our build site on a beautiful Saturday morning. We can’t wait to get started!

Our site will soon be handed over to Homestead Construction and Mills Albert (earthworks) and work should commence after Easter.

Thanks to The Post for their coverage of our ceremony https://www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350204541/construction-starts-paekakarikis-new-surf-club and to you our generous supporters. We're still fundraising and appreciate every dollar!
