Postie Bike Challenge 2015

Postie Bike Challenge 2015

The aim of the 2015 Postie Bike Challenge is to raise as much as we can to enable Camp Bentzon to rebuild their current wharf.

Auckland

Fifteen bike enthusiasts from the Matakana area will put themselves to the ultimate test this November - to travel the length of NZ on postie bikes (Honda CT110's). Travelling down the West Coast of NZ, from Auckland to Bluff, they will aim to make it to their destination within 10 days, travelling between 5-7 hours each day (the bikes only go 60-70km/hr).

To find out more about the challenge you can visit the event page here: https://givealittle.co.nz/event/postiebikechallenge/

The goal of the trip is to raise as much as they can to enable Camp Bentzon, on Kawau Island, to rebuild their current wharf (costing approx $200,000). The wharf is an integral part of the camp as there is only access via boat. The current wharf needs replacing within the next 12-18 months.

Camp Bentzon, based on Kawau Island, is a Charitable Trust, established in 1969, which runs school & youth camps for people from all over NZ.

The purpose of the Camp Bentzon Trust is to provide a facility with a safe environment on Kawau Island in the Mahurangi area where youth from all over NZ can experience challenges to enable them to develop and become valuable members of society.

The camp has approx 6,000 people through it each year (from schools, clubs, families, youth & adult support groups etc, all of whom get to experience the outdoors in an environment that gives a sense of freedom). The camp has 2 staff that are governed by a voluntary Board, plus other volunteers. The camp is able to support day to day running costs however relies on support for Capital works, major repairs & maintenance.

If you would like to support this challenge, please do so by either contributing a donation on this page, otherwise you can support one of the riders on their individual fundraiser pages (located here - https://givealittle.co.nz/event/postiebikechallenge/). ALL proceeds go directly to Camp Bentzon. No rider or other organisation will benefit from any donations on Givealittle.

More about us

A group of bike enthusiasts from the Matakana community bandied together to map out a ride covering as much of NZ as possible. After hours of watching YouTube and Top Gear clips they decided the ultimate challenge would be to do the journey on postie bikes (Honda CT100) and raise funds for a local charity in need. The chosen charity for the 2015 ride is Camp Bentzon on Kawau Island.
