Peace Movement Aotearoa is the national networking peace organisation; our focus is on peace, disarmament, social justice and human rights

Nationwide

Peace Movement Aotearoa is the national networking peace organisation. We provide information, educational resources, updates and networking services on peace, disarmament, social justice and human rights.

As well as our core networking activities, our work is focused on two main areas:

• building peace through disarmament and demilitarisation - including research, analysis and provision of resources on a range of disarmament topics, militarism and militarisation; national coordination of humanitarian disarmament campaigns on behalf of their respective global campaigns, for example, iCAN Aotearoa New Zealand (the national campaign of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize recipient International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons), the Aotearoa New Zealand Campaign on Military Spending, the Aotearoa New Zealand Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, the Aotearoa New Zealand Cluster Munition Coalition / Campaign Against Landmines Joint Working Group; the World War One Centenary Peace Project; coordination of the national networks on EWIPA (the use of explosive weapons in populated areas), child soldiers, and Women, Peace and Security; and administrative support for White Poppies for Peace and the White Poppy Peace Scholarships.

• peace and human rights - including research, analysis and provision of resources on peace, human rights and the Treaty of Waitangi; and regular reporting to United Nations human rights bodies on a range of human rights and humanitarian disarmament issues.

Peace Movement Aotearoa is a not-for-profit Incorporated Society, registered in 1982. Our goals are: to research, publish information and provide news, views, and resources on peace and related issues to interested groups and individuals in Aotearoa New Zealand; to educate the wider community about these matters; to promote and use non-violent means of conflict resolution at all levels from personal to global; to provide national networking services; and to work with relevant international groups.
