Rehab and exercise facility like no other in Dunedin. Vital for a wide range of ages with easy access and non-threatening environment.
Otago
We feature wheelchair accessibility, hoist and private changing rooms only steps from the poolside. The benefits of warm water exercise are tremendous and have an extremely positive impact on the quality of life for all ages. The Physio Pool is a key health and recreational facility for the Dunedin community.
Built in 1946, the Physio Pool has been instrumental in establishing new standards in hydrotherapy. It was the first purpose-built pool for the rehabilitative treatment of patients in New Zealand. Open to the public it offers a warm, non threatening environment for injury rehabilitation, people with disabilities and arthritis sufferers as well as offering swimming lessons and aqua fitness classes.
The Otago Therapeutic Pool Trust was established in 1983, to maintain the use of the pool for therapeutic purposes by patients from hospitals in Otago and for the general public. The Trust’s main role has been to operate the public sessions and provide qualified life-guards, provisioning of facilities and cleaning. The Southern District Health Board is no longer providing any funding so the Trust will also have to shoulder the entire responsibility for the pool including funding future maintenance and upgrades.
Fundraising Campaign is Progressing Well 22 June 2015
The Otago Therapeutic Trust would like to thank all the people who have donated so generously so far to the campaign. We are well underway with over $750,000 raised to date and the overall target of $1.5 million to cover the pool for the next ten years doesn't seem so far off! We still need your help though to spread the message - use the pool and donate if you can!
Your message will be displayed on the page and emailed to the donor.
