Picton Dawn Chorus - Restoring our birdlife together.
Marlborough
Picton Dawn Chorus is a community conservation charity restoring native birdlife life in Picton-Waikawa. We are working towards becoming predator free through controlling introduced mammalian predators (particularly rats, mustelids and possums).
Our project creates a halo around the Kaipupu Sanctuary by preventing the re-invasion of predators in to the sanctuary and providing an additional safe habitat for native birds to thrive.
The project includes both urban trapping (in residential gardens) and trap lines established in the towns reserves and bush areas (checked by a large team of volunteers).
Picton Dawn Chorus was set up in 2013 by a group of enthusiastic volunteers who were initially involved with successful trapping and monitoring on Kaipupu Sanctuary. We recognised the need to create a predator-free 'halo' to protect birds flying out from the sanctuary. Our goal is to protect an extended geographical area for native birds to thrive in; with a target ‘halo’ area of 4,815ha.
Your donation will help us to
- maintain our current network of over 2,200 traps
- buy traps, trap boxes and lure (we do not use any toxins) to expand our network.
- buy other equipment (monitoring equipment, tools, comms etc)
- employ staff to execute our operational plan
and most importantly it will help us to restore the native birdlife together.
